Our acclimatization day started out cloudy and we were slow to get going. Fortunately, my headache had disappeared overnight. We first visited the Sagarmatha National Park Museum which is inside a military base (doubling as goat pasture) on a hilltop east of Namche Bazaar. They have some nice displays but exhibits from everyday Sherpa life lack descriptions. After this we headed to the privately owned Sherpa museum which is run by a deaf Sherpa who also owns a quite luxurious lodge (with washing machines!) a little north of the military base. There was a slideshow with pictures of the region, a large photo exhibit and a historical sherpa home. Definitely worth a visit. Next we headed up to the abandoned airstrip above Namche Bazaar (see the picture on the left) and from there onwards to the Everest View Hotel. Unfortunately, clouds blocked the view and it actually started to rain while we were taking a look at the hotel. We had originally planned to continue to Khumjung but decided to turn around instead. Another afternoon nap ensued and we spent a lot of time in the dining room talking to other trekkers. Ruth and Muki were there as well and were planning to head to Gokyo Ri over the course of the next days. |
